Six police officers sacked for impersonation, forgery
By IFEOMA IKEM
The era of blatant impunity by police officers who engage in one form of illegalities or the other are fast been eroded as the police high command has clipped the wings of six officers with dismissal for engaging in impersonation and forgery.
Police Service Commission (PSC), who gave approval for their sack for various offences ranging from impersonation, forgery, negligence, insubordination and disobedience to lawful order, added that it was met to cleanse the system of bad characters.
It was learnt that the dismissal were part of the decisions taken by the Commission on 55 disciplinary cases. The PSC was also said to have rejected the recommendation for special promotion of one Deputy Superintendent of Police, an Inspector and the appointment of a Deputy Commissioner of Police to Commissioner of Police due to improper presentation.
Other decisions by the PSC were the decision to withhold the special promotion of nine other senior Police Officers for failure of the Police to provide convincing reasons for such promotions.
Confirming the dismissal and promotions on Thursday in Abuja, Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Information and Public Relations said, the Commission has approved the promotion of four Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioners and they include: CP Posi Ajunwa; CP Akinsanmi Francis Ayo; CP Kenneth Ebrimson and CP Akpoebi Agberebi Egbuson, a former Force Public Relations Officer.
Other promotions approved were 17 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners and 78 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police; one Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police; 12 Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendent of Police and one Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Two Chief Superintendents of Police were appointed Assistant Commissioners of Police on Acting capacity, two Superintendents of Police to Acting Chief Superintendents of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police to Acting Superintendent of Police, six Assistant Superintendents of Police to Acting Deputy Superintendents of Police and 12 Inspectors to acting Assistant Superintendents of Police.
The spokesman further disclosed that the promoted Commissioners of Police on Thursday appeared before the Commission in Plenary where they were subjected to questions on the ‘change agenda’ of the Nigeria Police Force.
