Appeal Court fixes Thursday for ruling on Ondo PDP crisis

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, this Tuesday, fixes judgement on the Ondo State governorship candidate suit for Thursday which was brought before the court by Eyitayo Jegede SAN of the PDP challenging thte candidature of Jimoh Ibrahim and the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Appellate Court constituting of three judges led by Ibrahim Salauwa decided this after taking final arguments from counsels to the suit.

The newly constituted panel by the Appeal Court President, Zainab Bulkachuwa, had adjourned hearing on the matter on Monday after sitting for about 10 hours.

A previous panel had resigned based on allegations of bias by a party in the suit.

On Tuesday, the court decided that judgements on the appeals before it would be given on

Thursday, after listening to the various counsels.

Eyitayo Jegede, governorship candidate of the PDP had approached the Appeal Court pleading the nullification of the decision of a Federal High Court imposing Jimoh Ibrahim as PDP candidate for the November 26, 2016 Governorship election in Ondo State. .

Jegede is of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP. He wants the appeal court to declare him the authentic candidate of the PDP for the governorship election in the state.

The Federal High Court had on October 14 given an order recognizing Jimoh Ibrahim as the rightful candidate of the PDP. Ibrahim is of the Ali Sheriff faction of the PDP.

PDP is the ruling party in Ondo State. The outgoing governor, Olusegun Mimiko, is a staunch supporter of Jegede and has condemned the INEC for recognising Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP candidate.
