Insecurity: FG suspends train services in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Ajaokuta rail lines
The federal government on Wednesday disclosed the suspension of train services to Nigerians om certain rail lines. The Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, revealed the suspension of train operations on the Lagos, Abuja, and Ajaokuta rail lines, citing safety concerns of passengers.
Fidet Okhiria disclosed that the suspension of train services was directed after a report of kidnapping attempt on passengers that departed the Ajaokuta Station by road to Abuja.
The M.D. said that the kidnappers shot at the passengers and their vehicles during the failed operations, as the passengers escaped.
The NRC MD, however, directed passengers to use any of the rail stations at Itakpe (North) or Itogbo (south) in the interim till the security situation in the suspended areas improves.
