A man has been charged with an alleged breach of the peace as the Queen’s coffin passed through the streets of Scotland on Sunday. It is the second breach of the peace charge related to the procession this weekend.

Aberdeen Live reports that a 38-year-old man is to appear in court after he was allegedly seen clutching eggs as the Queen’s coffin cortege was due to arrive in Aberdeen. Police have confirmed that a man was charged near Duthie Park in the city.

Thousands gathered to watch the coffin journey from Balmoral to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. It passed through several towns and cities including Aberdeen.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s North East Division said officers were required to attend near Duthie Park at around 11am.

The spokesperson said: “A 38-year-old man was charged for a breach of the peace in the vicinity of Duthie Park, Aberdeen, on Sunday, September 11, 2022. He was released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”

It comes after a woman was arrested outside St Giles Cathedral as mourners awaited in Edinburgh. A protester allegedly held an anti-monarchy sign ahead of the accession proclamation.

It is alleged she held a sign saying “f*** imperialism, abolish monarchy”. Officers appeared behind a woman and took her away, prompting the crowd to applaud.

Police confirmed that a 22-year-old woman was arrested in connection with an alleged breach of the peace.
