How Peter Obi rejected allocation of 2 plots of land as Anambra Governor in 2007

The legacy of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on prudence, honesty and commitment to service of the people have been manifesting over time. A letter revealing how Obi rejected the offer of two plots of land in a choice estate when he was Governor of Anambra State in 2007, has surfaces revealing details of his polite decline of the offer.

Obi maintained his stand that he became governor by the grace of God, and that he was governor to serve the people and not take advantage of the office to enrich himself.  He maintained his resolve to distance himself from the privileges of the office.

Obi in a letter dated may 8^th, 2007, to the Managing Director of Anambra State Housing Corporation, Awka, had declared: “I wish to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 07/5/07 and 13/02/07 … conveying the allocation of two plots of land…at the Hill View Estate, Nkwelle-Ezenaka to me.

However, as I have made abundantly clear, my being the Governor is by the Grace of God and I believe firmly that it is wrong to benefit from that. “

“I became Governor because I wish to serve my people, and do that devotedly. “I believe I have to distance myself from undue privileges of the office.

“Consequently, I thank you for your thoughtfulness, I wish to decline the allocation based on the reasons already adduced.”
