Commissioner Sobieraj reported that preliminary police findings showed that a 19-year-old man, who is not a resident of the facility, attacked a teacher and other residents with a knife.
Thirteen people were in the orphanage, with 10 of those wounded, with five transported to the hospital in non-life threatening condition. Those children who were not injured have been taken to another facility.
The attack took place around 11pm on Tuesday evening, with five fire brigade units, five medical rescue teams, an LPR helicopter and the police rushing to the scene of the carnage.
