Tension in Niger: Tinubu holds meeting with Govs of 5 border states in North
President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday night, held a meeting with Governors of five northern governors sharing borders with Niger Republic at the State House, Abuja, as tension continues to rise in the neighboruing country over the military coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.
This is coming as the 7 days ultimatum issued by leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the military regime to vacate office or face military and other actions, elapses.
The northern governors at the meeting President Tinubu at State House include Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Governor Idris Nasir of Kebbi State and Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State.
Uncertainty has continued to loom over the next step of the ECOWAS leaders over the threats of military action in Niger Republic, beside other sanctions.
Some West African countries have declared support for Niger on the event of military attack by ECOWAS forces.
In an earlier report by National Daily, seven northern states sharing borders with Niger Republic were identified as being at high risk on the outburst of war in the neighbouring country. President Tinubu may have convened the meeting with the five border states governors in recognition of the risk in the northern Nigerian territory.
