Mix-up over gov. election result in Bayelsa
There was mix-up over the announcement of the results of the governorship election in Bayelsa State, leading the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift the announcement of the final result to Monday. The commission had already collated results of the governorship election from six of the eight LGAs of Bayelsa State, but there was delay in the results from two local governments.
This was after the candidate of the PDP, Governor Douye Diri had won majority votes in five of the eight local government areas, while Timpre Sylva of the APC won in one local government, of the state.
The INEC State Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta, had collated results in six of the eight local government areas (LGAs) in Bayelsa State before postponing the collation of results in two local governments to Monday.
Awaited results are expected from Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs, while results from Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe and Ekeremor LGAs have been collated.
