Empower Amotekun-APC UK Southwest State Caucus Advocate

In a bid to bolster security measures in southwestern Nigeria, All Progressive Congress United Kingdom chapter (APC UK-Southwest State Caucus) has counselled government to empower the zonal policing network-Amotekun with sophisticated weapons.

In a statement issued by the Caucus General secretary Mr. Ayodele Adigun in Akure, Ondo State, APCUKSW Caucus asserts that empowering the Amotekun with sophisticated weapons is a call in the right direction considering the enormous security challenge in the country.

APCUKSW Caucus cited the increasing menace of criminal activities and the challenges faced by the Amotekun security outfit,as the major driving force of it’s prayer that Amotekun operatives be adequately equipped to combat the evolving tactics of the criminals.

The caucus chairman Hon Andrew Taiwo also harped on the importance of the call, adding that arming the Amotekun corps with sophisticated weapons would enable effective tackling of various security challenges plaguing the country, including Armed robbery, and kidnapping.

The call comes amidst growing concerns over the escalation of insecurity in the country with communities facing recurring attacks from criminal elements.

Mr. Adigun emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the federal government, state government, and regional security network to adequately profile individual criminals and ensure the protection of the citizens.

He added that the call by the APC UK Chapter South West State Caucus for the arming of Amotekun with sophisticated weapons reflects a growing consensus among stakeholders stating that criminals are using sophisticated weapons and display them in open places without challenge.

The statement commended the Amotekun corps for living up to its name and the commitment it is putting into the protection of lives and property in Ondo’s state and the entire southwest state at large.

The APC UK (southwest state caucus) scribe, however, charged residents to support the security outfit with provisions of relevant information and sincerity to ease their investigations.
