NSUK students lament following EFCC incident
Occupants and students of the Angwan Lambu area of Keffi Lodge have lamented over the commando-style operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, carried out to arrest some suspects of Internet fraud.
The students called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to intervene and protect students of the state-owned University from further harassment.
EFCC officials on Saturday, June 15, reportedly broke into apartments at a lodge in the Angwan Lambu area of Keffi to effect the arrest of some suspected internet fraudsters.
Some students of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, were arrested at the off-campus student community during the operation.
An eyewitness who confirmed the incident said no less than four apartments in a luxurious students’ lodge were affected and suspects were arrested by the country’s anti-graft agency.
A statement signed by Comrade A. Atayi, on Wednesday, described the action as a gross violation of human rights and privacy, adding that it has caused some students great harm and trauma.

They therefore appealed to the country’s anti-graft agency to desist from “illegal practices” and respect the privacy and rights of individuals.
“We believe that the EFCC’s actions are a clear violation of the Nigerian Constitution and international human rights standards.
We urge the governor to take immediate action to address this issue going on in the state and ensure that the EFCC operates within the bounds of the law,” the statement reads further.
Meanwhile, some residents of the off-campus student community have commended the operatives of the anti-graft agency over the successful operation, lamenting that activities of suspected fraudsters had led to the increase in prices of goods and services including rents.
