NDLEA nab Canadian woman with 35kg illicit drug

Adrienne Munju, a 41-year-old Canadian woman, has been apprehended by officials from the NDLEA for importing illicit drug.

She was at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos for bringing in a significant shipment of ‘Canadian Loud,’ a potent type of synthetic cannabis.

NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in statement on Sunday, October 6, said: “The suspect was arrested during the inward clearance of passengers on KLM airline flight from Canada at the terminal 1 of the Lagos airport on Thursday 3rd October 2024.

During a thorough inspection of her three bags, Adrienne, a young woman visiting Nigeria for the very first time, was discovered to be carrying 74 packages of an illegal drug. This sizable amount weighed a total of 35.20 kilograms and was hidden within two of her bags.

In the account she provided to the authorities, Adrienne made it clear that she had been recruited through an online platform to smuggle this harmful consignment. She was promised a payment of 10,000 Canadian dollars if she successfully delivered the drug in Lagos. When questioned further, she explained that she accepted this risky offer because she urgently needed the money to cover the expenses of her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada.
