The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, receiving the newly appointed Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Anite, in office on Monday, affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to attract investments into the country.
The minister said this would increase the nation’s productivity as well as the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Anite was the minister of Industry, Trade and Investment before she was redeployed to the Ministry of Finance as minister of state in the recent cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu.
According to Edun, the Federal Government is implementing necessary reforms that are long overdue.
“As we go forward together to help complete the ongoing economic reforms which are showing sustainability and signs of success, we have for the first time in decades the foreign exchange rate.
“This is market-based and we have the market pricing of petroleum products.
“So, we stand on the threshold of a new dawn in terms of the ability of the economy to attract investments, thereby, increasing productivity, and growing the GDP, which creates jobs and reduces poverty,” he said.
Edun said that the president had always stressed the need for consultation, cooperation, collaboration and teamwork.
“This is the basis of our efforts here together and we are sure that you will fit in smoothly.
“We wish you well and also to assure you of every support, encouragement and cooperation, and to let you know that we want you to be free to express yourself, to contribute and to excel,” Edun said.
Anite, in her response said that the president‘s Hope Agenda mantra would be carried out diligently.
“It has been a very challenging one year for you sir, especially since May 29 when the president took over and he made that pronouncement.
“That was when that responsibility fell on your shoulder to guide and steer this economy towards stability and prosperity.
“I will also ensure that the president’s vision and mandate to his people, especially during his campaign manifesto is materialised.
“It is no small task that you have given me and coming to work with you, to be honest, I am a bit apprehensive but happy,” she said.
Anite said that she was ready to work as well as compliment the minister’s efforts to ensure they achieved the president’s mandate.
“I want to thank God for this opportunity. I know it is not an opportunity given to me lightly, and I do not take it lightly.
“I also want to thank the president for bestowing upon me the privilege of working with you as your minister of state for Finance.”
