Oborevwori mourns victims of Agbor tanker explosion, orders immediate support for survivors
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in Sunday’s tragic fire outbreak caused by a diesel tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
The devastating incident occurred when the diesel tanker, reportedly due to brake failure, overturned at a traffic light junction and ignited a massive fire. Four people were confirmed dead, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described the incident as horrifying and extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased and the injured.
He prayed for the fortitude for the bereaved families to bear the loss and for the speedy recovery of the survivors.
“This is a deeply saddening incident, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives, the injured, and the entire Ika South community affected by this tragedy,” the Governor stated.

Governor Oborevwori instructed the Delta State Ministry of Health, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and other relevant agencies to swiftly provide support to the victims.
He emphasized the need for urgent medical attention for the injured and relief for families who lost loved ones and property in the inferno.
The Governor lauded the efforts of the Delta State Fire Service, security agencies, and residents of Ika South who worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze and assist the victims.
“Your quick response and commitment to saving lives and minimizing damage during this unfortunate event are commendable,” he noted.
The Governor urged transport operators and relevant authorities to prioritize road safety and enforce strict adherence to vehicle maintenance protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Agbor tragedy has cast a somber mood across Delta State, but the Governor’s swift actions and commitment to supporting the victims provide a ray of hope amid the heartbreak.
