Yobe Government secures release of 30 inmates from five correctional centres
The pardon was approved by Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, following recommendations by the state’s Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy
The Yobe State Government has successfully facilitated the release of 30 inmates from five correctional centres across Nigeria.
In a statement released on Monday in Damaturu, Alhaji Alhassan Mamudo, the spokesperson for the state Ministry of Justice, confirmed the development.
He explained that the state government had paid the fines for 14 of the inmates, while the remaining 16 were granted clemency.
The detainees were freed from correctional facilities located in Potiskum, Nguru, Gashua, Jos, and Kaduna.
The pardons were granted following recommendations made by the state’s Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, which is chaired by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Saleh Samanja.

The council had visited the Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashua correctional centres to assess eligible inmates.
After careful deliberations, a list of 30detainees was submitted to Governor Mai Mala Buni, who approved their release.
Mamudo added that the state government remains committed to enhancing the welfare of inmates and offering skill acquisition programs, in line with Governor Buni’s leadership.
