Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled a robbery attempt on a tricyclist on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, disclosed that the operatives of the Alausa Division, who were on a routine surveillance patrol, foiled the robbery attempt.
“The police spotted a tricycle operator being forcefully dragged by three assailants attempting to dispossess him of his tricycle.
“Upon noticing an approaching police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels,” Hundeyin said.
The PPRO added that the officers, undeterred and determined to prevent further harm, pursued the suspects.
“The suspects, who managed to escape the scene, abandoned a black bag in the process.
“A thorough search of the bag led to recovery of one Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, one cutlass, one knife and assorted charms,” he said.
The PPRO said that intensive efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
Hundeyin said that the tricyclist sustained machete injuries on the head and other parts of his body and was rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Center by the police team.
The spokesperson said that the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, praised the officers for prompt response.
“CP Jimoh reiterates the command’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents and visitors to the state.
“The commissioner urges all citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” he said.
