25-day power outage looms in Lagos as Eko DisCo announces maintenance shutdown

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a 25-day planned power outage that will affect parts of Lagos State and other serviced areas beginning Sunday, July 28, 2025.

The company made this known in a public notice shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday.

According to the announcement, the daily blackout will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day and is scheduled to end on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

EKEDC explained that the power interruption is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carry out critical maintenance work on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330 kV transmission line, a key infrastructure in Nigeria’s electricity grid.

“EKEDC has announced a daily planned power outage from Sunday, 28 July, to Thursday, 21 August 2025, due to essential maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330 kV line,” the notice read.

The utility firm added that the planned outage will lead to intermittent electricity supply and load shedding across several areas within its operational network in Lagos.

While urging customers to bear with the inconvenience, EKEDC advised residents to make alternative energy arrangements during the period and assured that efforts are being made to minimize the impact on affected communities.

Affected customers are expected to receive updates through EKEDC’s official channels as the maintenance progresses.
