Trade Minister, AfDB President to visit SAGLEV EV plant in Lagos
In a major boost to Nigeria’s green industrialisation drive, SAGLEV Electromobility Company Limited, the country’s pioneer indigenous electric vehicle (EV) assembler and manufacturer, will host two high-profile visits at its flagship EV assembly and manufacturing facility in Imota, Lagos, this week.
On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, will undertake a familiarisation tour of SAGLEV’s state-of-the-art facility, situated at Plot 1/11, Bang Amos Industrial Estate, Ogidiga Crescent, Imota.
The visit highlights the Federal Government’s growing commitment to local manufacturing, clean energy transition, and innovation within the nation’s automotive sector.
The momentum continued the following day, Thursday, July 31, 2025, with a scheduled visit by Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
His tour is part of the bank’s ongoing engagement with regional partners to advance climate-resilient transport infrastructure, sustainable industrial development, and support for green-tech investment across Africa.
SAGLEV, which has positioned itself at the forefront of Africa’s e-mobility transformation, is already making waves with a growing portfolio of 16 electric vehicle models. These include: Ride-hailing cars; Executive sedans; Mid-sized electric delivery vans and BRT electric buses.

Speaking ahead of the dual visits, Dr. Sam Faleye, Chief Executive Officer of SAGLEV, described the engagement as a major endorsement of Nigeria’s potential to lead Africa’s clean mobility revolution.
“These visits by national and continental leaders validate our commitment to Nigeria’s industrial future and Africa’s clean transportation revolution,” said Dr. Faleye. “We are proud to welcome Minister Jumoke Oduwole and AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as they witness firsthand the progress being made at our Lagos plant.”
Industry experts have hailed the visits as a strong signal of government and institutional support for Nigeria’s electric vehicle sector, which is expected to grow rapidly in the coming decade amid rising demand for clean transport solutions and international climate commitments.
Dr. Adesina’s upcoming visit also reflects the AfDB’s increasing investment focus on green infrastructure and innovation-driven industries across the continent. As a long-time advocate of climate-smart industrialisation, Adesina has repeatedly emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in driving Africa’s sustainable economic transformation.
