Delta Police nab Okada rider over alleged child abduction, recover ransom money
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State have arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Kelvin Ogaga, over the alleged abduction of a three-year-old girl in Ughelli, Delta State.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, who said the suspect was apprehended following credible technical intelligence and a targeted operation by the Command’s Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS).
According to the police, the victim’s father had on May 18, 2026 reported that his daughter was abducted by the suspect, a commercial motorcyclist who had been trusted with transporting the child for daily school runs.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦500,000 from the family before releasing the child, which was reportedly paid to secure her freedom.

Following intelligence-led tracking, operatives stormed the suspect’s hideout in Ughelli, where Kelvin Ogaga was arrested. Police also recovered N27,000, believed to be part of the ransom money, alongside other items allegedly purchased with proceeds from the crime. The motorcycle used in the operation was also recovered.
In a separate development, the command said its operatives recovered two firearms during routine patrols in different parts of the state.
One of the recoveries involved a Beretta pistol found inside a bag abandoned by a fleeing suspect upon sighting police officers.
In another operation in Ozoro, officers attached to the Ozoro Division intercepted a suspect identified as Michael Monday along Omovutotu Street during a township patrol. A search of his bag reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun and a live cartridge.
Preliminary investigation allegedly linked the suspect to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger,” according to police findings.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the command’s commitment to sustained crime-fighting efforts across the state.
He also emphasized the importance of stop-and-search operations as a proactive policing strategy that continues to yield results, while urging residents to report suspicious movements or individuals to security agencies promptly.
