Andy Burnham vows fresh start in first Speech as UK Prime (video)

Britain’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has called for a fresh start for the United Kingdom, acknowledging public frustrations and promising a new approach to governance in his first address outside 10 Downing Street after formally taking office.

Speaking shortly after accepting King Charles III’s invitation to form a government, Burnham admitted that the country’s political leadership had fallen short of public expectations and pledged to restore confidence in government.

“I hear you and I want to be honest with you. We have not been good enough and we need to be better,” the new Prime Minister told the crowd gathered outside Downing Street.

Burnham’s remarks set the tone for his administration, with the Labour leader calling for a national reset after years of political turbulence and economic challenges.

The new Prime Minister urged the nation to move beyond the instability that has characterised recent years, promising a government focused on restoring trust, delivering effective leadership and addressing the issues affecting households across the country.

Burnham assumed office earlier on Monday after King Charles III formally invited him to form a government during an audience at Buckingham Palace, following the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer.

He is expected to unveil his Cabinet in the coming days as his administration begins implementing its agenda aimed at strengthening the economy, restoring political stability and improving public services.
