Amotekun rescues two abducted Fulani herders in Ondo–Edo forest

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, have rescued two young Fulani herders who were abducted while grazing cattle in a forest along the Ondo–Edo State boundary.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped in the Owo forest area after they failed to return home, prompting fears among their families and triggering a search operation.

According to reports, the rescue mission began after the victims’ parents alerted the Amotekun Corps. Operatives subsequently launched a coordinated operation with the support of the families, tracking the suspected kidnappers to a hideout deep inside the forest.

Speaking on the operation, the Ondo State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed that the kidnappers fled the camp after realising security operatives had discovered their location.

He said the two victims were found alive and rescued unharmed.

“The kidnappers abandoned the victims and escaped when they noticed that our operatives had uncovered their hideout,” Adeleye said, adding that the operation was successfully executed without casualties.

The latest rescue comes amid growing concerns over the persistent threat of kidnapping in forests and rural communities across parts of Nigeria. Criminal gangs have increasingly targeted farmers, herders and travellers, forcing security agencies to intensify efforts to dismantle their camps and improve public safety.

The Amotekun Corps, the South-West’s regional security outfit, has continued to play a key role in combating kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across the region through intelligence-driven operations and joint security interventions.
