Team Nigeria concluded the Games with an impressive haul of 24 medals comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, underlining the country’s dominance on the continent.
The Anambra-born sports philanthropist said the performance demonstrated that Nigerian athletes could compete successfully with the world’s best when provided with the necessary support and enabling environment.
He commended the athletes, coaches, technical officials, the National Sports Commission, sporting federations, support staff and sponsors for their commitment and contributions to the team’s successful outing.
According to Agu-Ejidike, the achievement should inspire the nation and encourage stakeholders to intensify efforts towards the development of sports across the country.
He noted that the performance further reinforced Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations.
While urging Team Nigeria not to relent, Agu-Ejidike said greater challenges and opportunities await on the continental and global stage.
He encouraged the athletes and sports federations to sustain the momentum through better preparation, discipline and hard work ahead of future international competitions.
Agu-Ejidike also reaffirmed his commitment to the growth of sports in Nigeria, calling on governments at all levels, the private sector and other stakeholders to invest more in sports development.
He added that sports remain a vital tool for promoting national unity, empowering young people and enhancing Nigeria’s global image.
