Zack Orji: No matter the candidates, I’ll still choose Tinubu

Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has declared his continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he would choose the Nigerian leader over other political candidates “any day, anytime.”

The actor also defended the Tinubu administration against criticisms circulating on social media, arguing that some of the claims being made about the President and his government were inaccurate and not supported by proper research.

Orji made the remarks while speaking about the current state of the country and the performance of the Tinubu administration.

According to the veteran actor, some food prices have recorded significant reductions since Tinubu assumed office, citing commodities such as rice, beans and tomatoes as examples.

“I will continue to choose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over other candidates any day, anytime,” he said.

He added that the reduction in the prices of some food items was one of the reasons for his position.

“Prices of rice, beans, tomatoes have come down drastically since he became president,” Orji said.

The actor’s comments come amid continuing public debate over the impact of the Federal Government’s economic policies on Nigerians, particularly the cost of food, transportation and other essential commodities.

Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 and has implemented a series of major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange regime.

While the reforms have been defended by the government as necessary to stabilise the economy and create conditions for long-term growth, they have also attracted criticism over their immediate impact on household purchasing power and the cost of living.

Zack Orji warns Nigerians against social media claims

The actor also expressed concern over the way Nigerians consume political information, particularly through social media platforms.

He argued that many people accept information shared online without verifying its authenticity or examining the evidence behind such claims.

“Most of the things you see on social media about him are fake,” he said, referring to information circulating about President Tinubu.

According to Orji, Nigerians need to develop a stronger culture of fact-checking and independent research rather than accepting every claim published online.

“Nigerians don’t research; they run with what they see on social media,” he added.

His remarks highlight the growing influence of social media on political discourse in Nigeria, where claims about government policies, political leaders and economic developments are frequently circulated across platforms.

The actor’s comments are likely to generate further debate, particularly as political parties and politicians gradually position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Rising cost of living remains major political issue

The cost of living has remained one of the most prominent issues confronting the Tinubu administration, with food prices and household expenses featuring prominently in public discussions about the government’s economic performance.

The administration has repeatedly highlighted measures aimed at increasing food production, improving agricultural output, attracting investment and strengthening the economy.

At the same time, opposition politicians and sections of the public have continued to question whether the benefits of the reforms are reaching ordinary Nigerians quickly enough.

Against this backdrop, Orji’s endorsement provides another prominent voice from the entertainment industry supporting the President and his economic direction.

The actor, however, urged Nigerians to look beyond social media narratives and conduct their own research before forming opinions about the administration.
