Bandits abduct farm owner, kill labourer in midnight raid on Kwara community 

Armed bandits in the early hours of Wednesday attacked Musa Parapura farm settlement along the Venra-Tenebo road in Kaiama Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and abducting the farm owner.

Security sources confirmed that the attack occurred at about 2:00 a.m., during which the proprietor of the settlement, identified as Musa Parapura, was kidnapped. A labourer described as a citizen of the Republic of Benin working on the farm was shot dead by the assailants.

The deceased, whose name had not been confirmed as of press time, was said to have arrived at the settlement from his home country only a day before the incident.

Speaking on the development, Sariki Samari of the Venra community disclosed that the kidnappers allegedly used the victim’s mobile phone to reach his family, demanding a ransom of N20 million in cash and two brand-new Haojue motorcycles for his release.

Upon receiving distress information, security sources said a joint team comprising police operatives, other security agencies and local vigilantes was swiftly mobilised to the area.

The combined patrol team has since launched a search-and-rescue operation across nearby bushes and forest areas with the aim of rescuing the abducted farm owner and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

Investigators were said to have visited and documented the crime scene, while photographic evidence of the deceased labourer was obtained as part of ongoing inquiries.

Authorities said efforts are underway to ascertain the full identity of the slain worker, track down the suspects and ensure the safe release of the kidnapped victim, while also working to prevent a recurrence of such attacks in the area.
