Political parties, candidates sign Peace Accord in Abia
Candidates of political parties in Abia State have signed a peace accord to ensure violence free elections in the state, coordinated by the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abia State.
Speaking to the candidates and their supporters in Umuahia, Abia State, before the signing of the peace accord, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Joseph Ilo, expressed hope that the accord will reduce electoral violence.
Ilo charged the candidates not to take laws into their hands or incite the public but always bear in mind that every contest has a winner and a loser.
Shortly after signing the peace accord, the candidates pledged to abide by the documents signed.
Of the 37 active political parties in Abia State, only candidates from nine political parties signed the peace accord.
