Mechanic in prison for sexually assaulting neighbour’s 2-year-old girl
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday, ordered that a 22-year-old mechanic, Victor Anyaegbu, who allegedly sexually assaulted a two-year-old girl, be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The defendant, a resident of Alafia Street in Orisumbare, Ejigbo area of Lagos, is charged with unlawful indecent sexual assault.
Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Prison. Sule-Amzat adjourned the case until April 18.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3 at 4 p.m. at his residence.
Emuerhi alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter (name withheld).
The prosecutor told the court that the case was reported to the police at Ejigbo Police Division by the victim’s father.
Emuerhi told the court that the defendant was arrested by the police and was later transferred to the Gender section, Lagos police command, Ikeja, for further investigation.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015
