APC Chairmanship: Here are 3 things that may happen if APC goes ahead with consensus
1. One thing that may likely happen if the All Progressive Congress goes ahead with consensus against the wishes of the people is that many members of the party will likely decamp. If this happens, the should watch out, it chances to win next year’s election may be affected. The voice of the people must always be heard. As much as individuals have the right to support any candidate of their choice, the majority must always have their way in a democratic setting, while the voices of the minority must always be heard.
2. Another possible outcome is the fact that those other candidates who will not be allowed to contest may want to work against the party, while others may leave. Just one or two of the candidates who are very loyal to the party may still stay. One thing the All Progressive Congress needs to do is to make sure that all those who are interested in post or the other are given the opportunity to try their popularity without being intimidated by anyone.
3. The last thing that will happen is that the aggrieved members concerned will go to court. And if those happens, it may affect the party’s performance in the coming elections in 2023. The Electoral Law is clear on this issue. So clear that there should not be any problem at all. If the candidates refuse to step down, then the party has another option of conducting a direct or indirect primary. Consensus is like imposing a candidate on the people especially in a situation were the candidate is not generally accepted by all by all the members.
Whichever method the party may opt for, they should bear in mind that there is always a repercussion for every action. Every interest must be represented and no zone should be neglected or jettisoned during the National Convention as this may cause the party a lot. Politics as we know is a game of numbers.
