Buhari may have lied about his WAEC certificate, Keyamo insists
Buhari may have lied about his WAEC certificate, Keyamo insists Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to claims made by Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Director Strategic Communications for President Muhammadu Buhari 2019 campaign, that the President or any other Nigerian does not need a West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate to become president or governor.
Reacting to the claim, the former Aviation Minister in a Twitter post said Buhari may not need a WAEC certificate to become president but once he swore to an affidavit it becomes a different matter.

“Buhari may not need a WAEC certificate to contest but once he swore to an affidavit or presented a form indicating that his qualifications include WAEC, it becomes a different matter. Or has he withdrawn his WAEC claim? This is a matter of perjury and not whether he is qualified,” Fani-Kayode wrote on his Twitter page on Monday.
According to Keyamo, there are no provisions in the Nigerian Constitution stipulating that an aspirant must possess a WAEC certificate to occupy either of the above positions.
Keyamo had earlier stated, when he appeared on Channels Television Interview on Sunday, “Yes. Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution defines ‘School Certificate or its equivalent’ to mean primary 6 School Leaving Certificate plus the ability to just speak, write, understand and communicate in English language to the satisfaction of INEC.”
