Buhari uses Obasanjo for image laundry before UK PM, Boris Johnson?
There was an innuendo on Thursday that President Muhammadu Buhari may have been using former President Olusegun Obasanjo for a seeming image laundry during been during a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Britain, Boris Johnson, on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda.
President Buhari, while reaffirming his intention not to exceed the maximum constitutional term of years in office, was cited to have stated that the person who tried seeking a third term in office did not end well. Even as the Nigerian president did not mention any name, many had attributed the cited statement of President Buhari as an innuendo against former President Obasanjo.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had in a statement on Thursday indicated that in a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda, Buhari was asked if he will seek another term in obvious; citing that the President saying: “Another term for me? No! The first person who tried it didn’t end very well.”
Some stakeholders have expressed the view that the president may have purportedly used the former president to underwrite his potential legacy of the prevailing insecurity, economic decay, among others, that could be bequeathed to Nigerians at the end of his tenure in 2023.
