COAS pledges more befitting accommodation for personnel
The Chief of Army Staff (COAD), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has inaugurated the newly completed official residence of Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) of 8 Division, Sokoto, pledging to provide more befitting accommodation for the military personnel.
Yahaya inaugurated the two residences at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto, on Thursday, which was built to accommodate RSMs of 8 Division and that of Garrison command.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the COAS was in Sokoto state as part of his official visit to evaluate the successes of various operations in trouble areas of the country.
Yahaya assured proper engagement to ensure more befitting accommodation for Army personnel across the country.
“As you can witness, we have in the past two days engaged in various official activities toward ensuring peace and best service condition of our Army personnel.
“Part of such activities was the ground breaking of the new proposed Nigeria Army Forward Operation Base in Isa Local Government Area and the new accommodation for personnel in Zuru, Kebbi State.
“Today we commission a first class befitting accommodation for the RSMs as part of our welfare agenda to the personnel,” he said.
He added that the gesture was in recognition of the office of RSM in the Nigerian Army and also to boost their morale to serve the force better.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Uwem Bassey, thanked the COAS for the visit to the state.
Bassey promised to continue to sustain more commitment of ensuring the best welfare of the personnel as directed by the COAS.
