COAS Oluyede urges media to prioritize responsible reporting on Nigerian army activities
We must work together to enhance national security by promoting a united front against violent armed groups and distractions to nation-building
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has called on media practitioners in the South-East to engage in responsible and balanced reporting of the Nigerian Army’s operations and activities.
The COAS made the appeal during his address at the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Quarterly Media Chat in Enugu on Thursday.
The event, themed “Military and Media Relationship: A Panacea for Enhanced National Security and Development,” focused on strengthening the collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the media.
Represented by Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Oluyede emphasized the importance of fostering an open dialogue between the Army and media practitioners.
He stated that such collaborations would improve transparency, support timely dissemination of information, and effectively counter misinformation.

Oluyede urged the media to prioritize accuracy and fairness in reporting, balancing the public’s right to information with national security concerns.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede also warned against spreading misinformation that could threaten national unity and security, stressing that a robust relationship between the Army and media could enhance public understanding and promote national development.
