Court sentences 4 men to imprisonment for stealing armoured cable
A Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced four men each to one month in the correctional centre for stealing armoured electric cables.
The convicts, Sadiq Iseh, Ibrahim Abubakar, Bashir Abubakar and Idris Usman, all of Airport Road, Abuja, who pleaded guilty to charges, were sentenced by Magistrate, Mercy Tiwatope.
Tiwatope convicted and sentenced the quartet following their plea of guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy, mischief and theft.
The magistrate, however, gave the convicts an option of N50,000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crime in the future
Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Donatus Abah, told the court that the convicts committed the offences on May 4.
Abah said that the convicts committed the offences at Wuse 2 on Kashim Ibrahim Way and vandalised armoured electric cables belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
He said that one Insp Danjuma Musa of Police Mobile Force arrested the convicts.
The prosecutor said that during police interrogation and investigation 22 pieces of vandalised armoured cables were recovered from the convicts.
Abah said that the offences contravene Sections 97, 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
