The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially responded to an incident that occurred on March 6, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Cargo (MMAC) NAHCO Shed, involving a dispute between its officers and officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The altercation, which stemmed from a miscommunication regarding equipment movement and seating arrangements, has drawn attention to the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining seamless cargo operations.
In a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS emphasized its unwavering commitment to fostering a cooperative working environment.
The statement highlighted that the agency remains aligned with the World Customs Organisation’s (WCO) Safe Framework of Standards, which underscores the necessity of Customs-to-Customs, Customs-to-Other Government Agencies (OGA), and Customs-to-Businesses collaboration. This approach, the NCS noted, is essential for efficient trade facilitation, regulatory compliance, and overall economic growth.

The NCS further clarified the legal standing of the NAHCO and SAHCO Import & Export Warehouses, stating that these facilities are licensed Customs Bonded Warehouses operating in full compliance with Section 122 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
As stipulated in Section 127 of the Act, these warehouses remain under the control of the NCS, reinforcing the agency’s mandate in overseeing cargo operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the NCS reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and preventing the recurrence of similar incidents. The agency assured stakeholders that it would continue to engage constructively to refine operational protocols while upholding national interests.
Reaffirming its dedication to trade facilitation, regulatory enforcement, and national security, the NCS urged all stakeholders to prioritize collaboration, adhere to due process, and maintain mutual respect.
The agency emphasized that fostering a conducive environment for economic growth and ensuring seamless cargo operations remains a top priority.
