Devastating cost of war, Mayor’s corps exhumed at funeral
The conflicts in Ukraine have continued to be devastating to the country. Critical national assets and public actors are being taken out by the Russian forces. The Gostomel Mayor, Yuriy Prylypko, killed on March 7 created a disheartening scene when his corps was exhumed from the grave during funeral.
As the dead body was pulled out, Father Petro Pavlenko hugged the mayor’s wife and said: Yuriy Prylypko “was a great patriot, a great man. He was loved.”
Russian forces had invaded the Kyiv commuter town that Prylypko was administering on March 7, leading ti his death. The mayor was said to be shot dead while “handing out bread to the hungry and medicine to the sick”.
Father Petro Pavlenko was said to have latter taken corpse in a wheelbarrow, rolled down for burial in a shallow grave between the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin and a pistachio green local government building.
