Two domestic staffers, Dassa Kemi and Johnson Destiny, who allegedly stole jewellery worth N20 million from their employer, were, on Thursday, arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendants were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Cyril Ejiofor, from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 6 at 22a, Cooper Road, Ikoyi.

Ejiofor said that the duo had conspired to steal their employer’s jewellery, valued at N20 million and sold same.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. Kayode-Alamu, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, while one of them must be a respected member of a community.

Kayode-Alamu, thereafter, adjourned the case till Aug. 24 for mention.
