EDO: Obaseki discovers Buhari’s congratulations veiled
Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki said he visited President Muhammadu Buhari to thank him for insisting the Saturday guber election must be credible, and Buhari cracked a joke the governor himself considered complimentary.
“Mr President, in his characteristic humorous manner, said he reluctantly congratulated me for beating his party,’ Obaseki told newsmen after the meeting at Aso Rock, Abuja, on Friday.
“He also pointed out that his role, first and foremost as President of Nigeria, is to be President of all regardless of your party, race, tribe, creed.
“We couldn’t ask for more from Mr President, he really played the role of his statement.”
Obaseki, who cross-carpeted to the PDP after he lost the APC party ticket, won with a margin of over 80000 votes which the APC candidate Osgie Ize-Iyamu says his team is still studying before taking the next action.
The APC caretaker committee led by Gov Buni Yadi has equally congratulated Obaseki, and there are rumours Ize-Iyamu is under pressure to concede the defeat. He has, however, denied.
But the APC candidate has a couple of options if he chooses to challenge the victory at the state election tribnal.
Obaseki hs a pending court case on his eligibility based on his credentials, and some sections of the electoral act that frowns on defection after a primary.
