Esther Nworgu secures Nigeria’s second silver at Paris Paralympics
Nigerian powerlifter, Esther Nworgu, has continued the nation’s impressive showing at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris.
On Wednesday, she clinched a silver medal in the women’s up to 41kg Para-Powerlifting event, setting two new Paralympic records in the process.
Nworgu’s remarkable performance saw her lift 112kg and 118kg in her final two attempts.
However, China’s Zhe Cui narrowly edged her out for the gold medal with a new Paralympic record of 119kg.
“I’m so proud of my performance today,” Nworgu said after the competition. “It’s been a long journey, and this medal is a testament to all the hard work and sacrifices I’ve made.”
The silver medal marks Nigeria’s second medal at the Paris Paralympics, following Eniola Bolaji’s bronze medal win in badminton earlier in the week.

“It’s a great feeling to represent my country and bring home a medal,” Nworgu added.
“I hope this inspires more young people in Nigeria to pursue their dreams, no matter what challenges they may face.”
This latest achievement is a testament to Nworgu’s skill and dedication, as well as the strength and resilience of the Nigerian Paralympic team.
