The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s Cotton, Textile, and Garment (CTG) industry for sustainable growth and development.

This was expressed by Sen. John Owan Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, during a Stakeholder’s Meeting on “Revitalising Nigeria’s Cotton, Textile and Garment Industry” held in Abuja on Wednesday.

The meeting, which was themed “Co-Creating Solutions to Grow CTG Industry in Nigeria,” served as a platform to discuss strategies for revitalizing the sector, with the goal of fostering sustainable growth that aligns with global best practices.

Enoh stated that the primary objective of the gathering was to finalize the review of the policy document for the full revitalization of the industry.

“As we seek to revive and reposition the sector, the ministry is fully committed to building a strong policy and institutional framework that reflects today’s realities and tomorrow’s possibilities,” Enoh emphasized.

The Minister further highlighted the importance of stakeholder participation in ensuring that the revitalization process is both inclusive and effective.

He emphasized that sustainable solutions for the sector should be shaped by those directly involved in the industry, including those facing its challenges, driving innovations, and carrying the vision for its future.

“Your presence here is a powerful reminder that sustainable solutions are best shaped by those who live the challenges, those who drive the innovations, and those who carry the vision,” Enoh stated.

In addition to seeking input from industry stakeholders, the Minister shared that the Industrial Revolution Work Group had been inaugurated with a key focus on revitalizing moribund industries.

The ministry is focused on ensuring the revival of these industries to make them thrive and contribute significantly to the nation’s economy.

Encouraging the adoption of locally produced goods, Enoh called on Nigerians to support the domestic industry, which would help unlock the nation’s economic potential. He also expressed gratitude for the continuous support and cooperation of all stakeholders.

Amb. Nura Rimi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, also underscored the vast economic potential of revitalizing the CTG sector.

Rimi highlighted the industry’s pivotal role in economic growth, job creation, and industrial development, emphasizing that the sector provides livelihoods for millions and contributes significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“We need strong collaboration with relevant stakeholders to unlock the immense potential of the sector and achieve its goals,” Rimi said.

Mrs. Adenike Ogunlesi, representing the Garment and Accessories Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (GAMAN), stressed that the garment segment is the key driver of the CTG value chain, particularly in job creation, foreign exchange earnings, and promoting Made-in-Nigeria products on the global stage.

Similarly, Mr. Hamma Kwajaffa, Director-General of the Nigeria Textile Manufacturers Association, noted that the meeting was an important step in promoting the industry’s potential and addressing its challenges.

He further explained that the association offers resources and training for manufacturers to enhance their operations and human resources.

The discussions held during the meeting are expected to shape the future direction of the CTG industry, ensuring its growth and competitiveness in the global market.
