Liverpool close in on Premier League glory as Leicester suffer historic relegation
Liverpool moved within touching distance of the Premier League title on Sunday after a narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium — a result that also sealed Leicester’s relegation following a dismal return to the top flight.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, amid growing speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid, emerged from the bench to fire home the decisive goal 14 minutes from time.
His late strike not only secured all three points for the Reds but also condemned Wilfred Ndidi and his Leicester teammates to an unwanted record — becoming the first team in top-flight history to go nine consecutive home games without scoring.
The defeat capped a miserable campaign for Leicester City, who will now return to the Championship just one season after climbing back to the Premier League.
Despite spirited efforts throughout the season, their lack of cutting edge in front of goal ultimately sealed their fate.
Liverpool’s win puts them three points away from officially clinching the title, with just one more victory required to crown a memorable campaign.
However, Arsenal ensured the championship celebrations would be delayed for at least another week after an emphatic 4-0 win over Ipswich Town earlier in the day.

The Gunners, fresh off their Champions League semi-final qualification triumph over Real Madrid, maintained their high standards with a dominant display at Portman Road.
Ipswich, now teetering on the brink of relegation, suffered their seventh home defeat of 2025, leaving their Premier League survival hopes hanging by a thread.
Meanwhile, Chelsea strengthened their push for Champions League football next season with a gritty 2-1 win at Fulham.
Despite Nigerian international Alex Iwobi getting on the scoresheet for the hosts, goals from teenager Tyrique George and Portuguese winger Pedro Neto ensured the Blues secured a crucial three points.
Chelsea now sit fifth in the table, edging ahead of Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa on goal difference.
Elsewhere, Manchester United’s disappointing season continued with a shock 1-0 home loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford. The Red Devils’ struggles have left their top-four ambitions in tatters as the campaign enters its final weeks.
With just a handful of matches remaining, the Premier League title is now Liverpool’s to lose, while the battles for European qualification and survival intensify at both ends of the table.
