Former minister whips V.P. Osinbajo, comes distant second behind Tinubu
Rotimi Amaechi, the APC presidential aspirant who said he was the most experienced of his rivals, has proved it by crushing Nigeria’s V.P Yemi Osinbajo, and coming far behind APC national leader Bola Tinubu who polled about 60 percent of the votes.
In the crowded contest for the ruling party presidential ticket just concluded at the Eagle’s Square, Abuja, the former transport minister scored 316, while Osinbajo scored 235.
Both fell below Tinubu’s 1271.
While 10 aspirants stepped down for Tinubu, including Godswill Akapbio and Abubakar Badaru (with their delegates numbering 93 and 81 respectively, one aspirant with no electoral value did for Osinbajo othe ground of religion.
Kabiru Gaya, the leader of Osinbajo campaign, however, claimed he heard three aspirants did.
But whatever the number, it did not impact in anyway the fortune of the vice president, the second in the last two decades to have contested and lost a primary.
Former V.P Atiku Abubakar lost to the late Umar Yar Adua in 2007 during the then-ruling party PDP presidential primary.
