Funke Akindele makes Nollywood history with UK film premiere
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has made history as her latest movie becomes the first Nigerian film to premiere at a prestigious 791-seat venue in the United Kingdom.
The actress celebrated the milestone, describing it as a product of hard work, dedication and perseverance, while encouraging emerging filmmakers to remain committed to their creative ambitions.
Akindele expressed hope that her achievements would inspire young creatives to pursue their dreams and contribute to the growth and international recognition of the Nigerian film industry.
“One of the things that means the most to me is knowing there are young creatives out there who look at my journey and say, ‘I can do this too.’ To every up-and-coming Nollywood filmmaker, please don’t give up on your dreams,” she said.

She added that the work being done by established filmmakers would help create opportunities for emerging talents to tell their own stories and reach wider audiences.
“I hope the work we’re doing today gives you a platform to tell your own stories and take them even further. This is just the beginning for our industry, and I’m excited about what we can do together,” Akindele stated.
The historic premiere underscores Nollywood’s growing international presence and efforts by Nigerian filmmakers to expand the reach of local productions beyond domestic audiences.
Akindele, one of Nollywood’s most successful filmmakers, has continued to push boundaries through her productions, attracting audiences and strengthening the industry’s visibility on the global entertainment stage.
