Gov Lalong presents N160bn budget proposal for 2022 to State Assembly
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Thursday presented a budget proposal of about N166 billion for the 2022 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly for legislation.
The governor disclosed that the state government came up with the figure after due consultation with stakeholders.
The 2022 budget has a deficit of about N20 billion which Governor Lalong said will be financed with loans from the federal government and domestic banks.
The governor observed that the state government is burdened by the increasing debt profile, compelling him to cut down the budget proposal.
The governor called on the state lawmakers for a speedy passage of the budget proposal tagged: “Budget of economic recovery.”
The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nuhu Abok promised Governor Lalong of a quick passage of the budget. He, however, cautioned that the legislature would not tolerate ineptitude from accounting officers in the discharge of their responsibilities.
