Grassroot Devt: Lawmaker drums support for LG autonomy.
Nasarawa State assemblyman Abdulaziz Danladi has assured members of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) of readiness to support local government autonomy.
Danladi, member representing Keffi East constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, said he would vote for the financial independence of local government councils at the appropriate time.
He made this remark while playing host to officials of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE), Keffi Local Government branch in Lafia on Tuesday.
Danladi, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Housing, said was to ensure grassroots development.
The lawmaker said that he would support and vote in favour of local government autonomy for development to thrive at the grassroots and for improved staff welfare of local government workers.
“If autonomy is granted to local governments, there will be more grassroots development.
“The standard of living of both local government staff and other people at the grassroots will improve.
“I want to assure you of my readiness to vote in favour of local government autonomy when National Assembly send the bill to the House for deliberation.
“I will do what you want. Whatever you want is what I will do as we are elected to ensure quality representation,” he said.
The lawmaker thus assured of effective and sound representation at the state legislature.
Earlier, Mr Adams Usman, the Chairman, NULGE, Keffi Local Government Area of the state, had said that the visit was to drum support for the autonomy of local government, state legislature and judiciary in the state.
Usman, who is also the State Trustee of NULGE, said that local government autonomy would promote grassroots development and ultimately the standard of living of people at the grassroots.
“We are here on an advocacy visit in order to solicit your support for the actualisation of local government autonomy, financial autonomy of the state legislature and state judiciary, among other demands, as local government autonomy and the autonomy of state legislature and judiciary will create good governance in the country,” he said
The NULGE chairman lauded Abdulaziz over his leadership qualities and called for its sustenance.
He assured the lawmaker of their prayers and support at all times.
