Group accuses el-Rufai of abolishing vigils, Christmas, Easter, New Year’s Eve observance by Christians

Published

The immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly withdrawn his interest in being part of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. According to report, presidency sources said Mr El-Rufai told President Tinubu at a meeting on Tuesday that he was no longer interested in becoming a minister but would continue to contribute his quota to the development of Nigeria as a private citizen. “He also told the president that he needed time to focus on his doctorate programme at a university in The Netherlands,” a source said. Another insider also said that the former governor suggested a new ministerial nominee — Jafaru Ibrahim Sani — for Kaduna State, saying the President would find him very useful and resourceful. Mr Sani served as commissioner in three ministries in Kaduna State (Local Government Education and Environment) while Mr El-Rufai was governor.

“Governor Nasiru El-rufai is with his Kaduna State Religious Preaching Regulation Law effectively banning night vigil, Christmas Eve, Easter and New year eve celebration for Christians.”

Istifanus Daniel of the Coalition of Christians with Conscience (CCC), Kaduna, stated this in a press release on Monday.

In a statement signed by Daniel and the Secretary of the coalition, Paul Musa, the group said that the law, which is termed, The Kaduna State Religious Preaching Regulation Law, 2019, contains several areas that will directly affect the worship mode of Christians in Kaduna State.

A part of its provisions criminalizes any person who plays a religious cassette or uses a loud speaker for religious purposes between the hours of 11pm and 4am.

“This is very disturbing as it means that Christians cannot hold night vigils, celebrate Christmas, Easter and New Year’s Eve in the evenings which fall typically within those hours. The provision is also divisive as our Muslim brothers are allowed to say their prayers at 5am after the ban for Christians,” the group said.

It added that this law seeks to ‘accredit preachers’ and appoint regulators of faith means that it is the state government that will determine what is preached or not.

“Has the state purged itself of its own political woes as to move into the sphere of faith? Surely, we are not in a theocracy but a democracy. The state and faith must be well separated.

“It is surprising that politicians who use thugs and take over the streets with loudspeakers do not have laws that will regulate them yet think that worshippers are the people to be regulated.

The law also defines a designated place of worship as a building constructed with permission sought for and obtained from the Kaduna State Urban Development and Planning Agency (KASUPDA) for the purpose of religious worship.

“In many states of northern Nigeria, Christians are not allowed to buy land and build churches, imagine how difficult it will be for Christians in Kaduna state to obtain permit to build churches if this law is passed,” the group insisted.

“We the CCC wish to draw the attention of the Kaduna State Government of the violation of our faith which this law will bring. We urge the Governor to reconsider its position and not pass this into law.”

Although the Kaduna House of Assembly passed the bill last week, Gov el-Rufai has yet to give his assent.

The National Daily gathered that the Speaker, Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, was trying to impress the governor (for re-election) by hastening the bill passage before the eighth state assembly expiration.

“As it stands, the document is yet to be prepared by the clerk, and therefore yet to be signed by the governor,” a source close to the assembly said.

This is against the rule of law, how can a mere governor abolish night vigil in a state. We have freedom of worship in this country but this so called government is trying to suppress it. This is against the rule of law! What of Muslims that worship freely in other states,no body have stopped them.

What is in night vigil, with a devoted person, who practices what God requires, he prays to God and God answers immediately especially if the prayer is in line with God’s will. So night vigil is a mere religious tradition not ordered by God.

Sorry friend you are wrong. I am not sure you are a Christian, if you were, you would know better. While it is true that God answers prayer anywhere and any time, the practice of night vigil was exemplified by Christ himself when he prayed all night to God before he chose His disciples. When Herod arrested and jailed Peter, the Church kept praying day and night for his release. What is written in the Bible is for our learning, including the scriptural practices of Bible characters.

Look here el rufai, ever learnt a lesson from Nebuchadnezzar? He was as godless and stubborn as you are, killed innocent souls, demolished peoples properties and businesses, performed ethnic cleansing. Now as if its not enough, you have hone the extra mile to ban night vigil, and celebration ofbEaster and Christmas. When a man is due to die, he God makes such person loose his sense of responsibility and destroy him at last. El rufai you are merely taking advantage of a president that is a lame duck to ride on his shoulders. You will soon be relocated to the forest and eat grass. You are a disgrace to the moslem world and to your generation. To even make matters worse, you are not even a Nigeria and u are oppressing the masses simply because they don’t buy your beliefs. Shame on you. You are heading for the rocks. If you succeed in your evil agenda I call on the Almighty to take awaybyiur breath because all soils are mine says the the Lord God Almighty. el rufai? It appears there’s a problem with your eustratian tube. The three semi circular canals in your ear have gone bezerk. While in office as FCT Minister you plundered innocent citizens properties and businesses and grazed them down because you’re hungry for power. You diverted government housed and lands to yourself and domestic staff now you have moved to Kaduna to cause mayhem. You have been killing Christians in Kaduna with impunity by taking advantage of a president that a lame duck by riding on his shoulders perform your nefarious religious acts. Do you know thee is a man exactly like you in the Bible called Nebuchadnezzar? He ended up as a state governor in the bush eating grass. I can assure you that before you conclude your motives God will withdraw your last breath from you. U will find yourself two feet below the ground. What annoys me is that you are not even a Nigerian. What is the meaning of el refai in Hausa language? I dare u to unleash your mayhem and the rest will be history.

Obviously, the plot to Islamise Nigeria isn’t a hidden agenda any more. But let’s think what could happen if all the individual state governors in Nigeria embark on this same kind of theocratic project (which is not democratic) to enact laws that could lead to a possible outbreak of religious wars and social divisiveness; there will be no state to govern, no country to to lead in oneness. We have seen how political crisis have rocked nations endlessly, notably Africa, due to “selfishness” in leadership. But the true leader is God whom you try ‘help’…
Now, we talk about Islamic terrorist, herdsmen killing, fulani radio for all, Religious Preaching Regulation Law: all emanating from Islamic agents. Can’t we see that the country is already on the REDLINE.
