Imo Police Station Attack: 18-yr-old, 7 others arrested, guns, flag, masquerade costume, others recovered
A teenager has been arrested alongside seven others in the wake of attack on a police station at Agwa, Oguta, Imo, last Saturday, where four cops died.
The attackers also burnt down police vehicles on the premises.
However, on Monday Obioma Chibuike, 18, from the Agwa community, was arrested first.
Others, from 19 to 52 years, were later picked up after a firefight with the command’s SWAT operative acting on intelligence to raid the criminal hideout.
They are Achazie Chidiebere, Onyedikachi Nwadike, Anayo Onyemere, Ifeanyi Mboyi, Chukwudi Onyeausi, Obodo Promise and Ifeobu Ebubechi.
Mike Abattam, the command’s PRO, said the command’s tactical teams acting on credible intelligence raided some identified criminal hideouts located between Agwa and Izombe communities in Oguta Local Government Area.
According to him, the hoodlums engaged police operatives in a gun duel and due to the superior firepower of the operatives, some of the suspects escaped while eight of the hoodlums were arrested.
Some of the items recovered include one pump action gun, two locally made guns, six cutlasses, one Biafran flag, eight live cartridges, eight expended cartridges and one masquerade apparel.
