JCole called me 2Pac — Burna Boy
By Orukpe Rebecca.
Burna Boy has become a household name in the global music scene and has managed to establish himself as one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians. He has been able to reach a wider audience, win several awards, and put Nigerian music on the world map. In a recent interview on the Rap Rader Podcast with Elliot Wilson and Brian ‘B.Dot’ Miller, Burna Boy spoke about his collaboration with American rapper J Cole on his latest album ‘I Told Them’.
He revealed that he had engaging conversations with J Cole about life and other profound topics before they recorded ‘Thanks’ together. The track sees Burna Boy expressing his disappointment towards Nigerians for not appreciating his achievements as much as he feels they should. During the interview, he also shares that J Cole referred to him as 2 Pac, the legendary rapper, during their conversation. He recalls the moment as unexpected, stating that J Cole said, “This N**ga is 2Pac,” referring to Burna Boy himself and even claimed that he is “2 Pac reincarnated in Africa.”
This comment has generated mixed reactions, with some users on Twitter accusing Burna Boy of being self-promotional and trying to hype his profile by comparing himself to the late legendary rapper. Nonetheless, Burna Boy’s talent and influence in the music industry cannot be denied, and it is clear that J Cole’s comment was a testament to that.
However, Burna Boy recently came under fire for stating that most Afrobeats songs lack substance and are about nothing during an interview with Zane Lowe. This statement sparked controversies, with some claiming that he should not have made such a broad and dismissive statement about a genre that has helped him attain global success. Despite the backlash, it is crucial to remember that Burna Boy is entitled to his opinion, and his opinion should not diminish his impact on the music scene.
In conclusion, his impact on the music industry is undeniable, and his music has managed to transcend borders and unite people globally. Regardless of the controversies surrounding his recent comments, his unique style and storytelling ability continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
