Lawmaker drums support for President Buhari
Rep. Sani Zoro (Jigawa-APC) has canvassed support for President Muhammadu Buhari to enable the president redeem his campaign promises of improving the lives of Nigerians.
Zoro made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.
The lawmaker said the president would ensure the security of lives and property, create jobs for the unemployed youths and intensify the war against corruption.
“The whole budget is predicated around these elements. I can tell you without any fear of contradiction that the budget is pro-poor.
“There are so many line items calculated to subsidise the poor and this is expected because 80 per cent of Nigerians are below the poverty line.
“Therefore, if the president proposes a budget that will subsidise the poor, it is well on course and it is in fulfillment of his campaign promises,’’ Zoro said.
He also said that the president would fulfill his promise on “free feeding in schools and the unconditional cash grant to the poor’’.
Zoro assured that the president was committed to improving the lot of the poor.
The legislator commended Buhari for his move to recruit and train 500,000 graduates and NCE holders across the country as teachers, adding that this would help to address the problem of unemployment.
Besides, Zoro urged the private sector to key into government plans to address unemployment in the country and invest in the agriculture and solid mineral sectors.
“If the private sector should embrace agriculture and solid mineral in the bid to diversify the economy, this will help substantially to solve unemployment problem,’’ he said.
