Leaders Leaders from 36 countries participated in the 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.
Membership of BRICS has continued to expand beyond the founding members towards creating a new global power bloc to challenge NATO, and the European Union and others at the hegemony of the West and the US, in the global political economy.
The WARSAW Pact led by Russia during the Cold War era, which provided balance of power to NATO, has since disintegrated. NATO has since encroached on both the territory and jurisdiction of the WARSAW bloc after the disintegration of Russia and other countries in Eastern Europe.
India, China, Russia Brazil, Egypt, South Africa, were front line participants, while Iran, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Palestine, among others, gave currency to the summit in Russia in the emerging world power bloc outside the West.
