Luis Enrique: There is no similarities between Spain, Barcelona
Luis Enrique spoke in a press conference at Real Betis’ Benito Villamarin on Sunday, looking ahead to Monday’s UEFA Nations League game against England.
The Spain coach was optimistic, confident that his side will get the win they need to book their place in the final four of the competition next summer.
In this sense, Lucho said he doesn’t see similarities between La Roja and the Barcelona side which he won the treble with in 2015.
“I don’t see similarities with Barcelona,” he said. “They’re different players and I don’t think it’s that good to compare teams. Each season is different, coaches change and I don’t think it’s fair to compare coaches and teams.”
As for the game against England, Luis Enrique is focused on winning, even though a draw will seal Spain’s place at the top of the group ahead of Gareth Southgate’s men and Croatia.
“Winning the game is the objective,” he said. “We’re not thinkin about other results. We’re going to focus on what we can control, which is this game.”
SOUTHGATE FAN
The former Barça boach said he has “doubts” about how Southgate will line his side up for the match and praised the coach’s work.
“I like Southgate as a coach,” he added. “I like the way he interprets the game by trying to play with the ball and adapting to his players, which is something we all must do.
“[Signing a] new contract shows [the FA] have confidence in him. Also, following his news conferences is helping me with my English. It’s like having an English teacher for free!”
PASISON IN SEVILLE
As for taking the national team to Seville, Luis Enrique said: “It’s really good to come here. It’s always really nice to visit Sevilla. I had the chance as a player with the national team. The support is special.
“That’s what we expect again tomorrow, the fans to be at their best. It’s key for us. The bigger the atmosphere, the support, the backing, the better. And Sevilla is a mythical, special city and we’re really happy to be here.”
