NDLEA 75-year-old man, 21 others in possession of illicit drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a  75-year-old man, Usman Bokina Bajama (alias Clemen), including 21 other illicit drug dealers in seven states, in possession of one million capsules of banned new psychoactive substances.

NDLEA media director, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, indicated that one million one thousand three hundred and eighty-seven (1,001,387) bottles/capsules of banned the psychoactive substance, Akuskura and tramadol, including 2,536 kilograms of cannabis were seized from the suspects.

Babafemi said that over 10 hectares of farms where the substances were being cultivated have been destroyed in Edo and Adamawa states.

NDLEA disclosed that the 75-year old Bajama was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday at Anguwan Sate, Mararraban Tola, Mayo Belwa council area of Adamawa State where he had a cannabis plantation from where 49kg of the illicit substance was recovered.

The NDLEA, in Kwara State, intercepted at least 19,878 bottles of the banned new psychoactive substance, Akuskura, along Ilorin-Jebba highway on Wednesday, and arrested two suspects – Oladokun Oluwaseun, 49, and Ibrahim Jimoh, 27.

The suspects disclosed that the consignment packed in 35 jumbo sacks was loaded in Ibadan, Oyo State, and meant for distribution in Jos, Plateau State.

The NDLEA also disclosed that two suspects – Ukoro Ifeanyi, 46, and Idowu Toyosi, 20, were arrested with 2,290 capsules of tramadol and 100 bottles of codeine-based syrup at Mararaba park, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Babafemi said that the drugs were brought into the state from Onitsha, Anambra State.

The media director further disclosed that NDLEA operatives in Lagos, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a Volvo truck loaded with 2,146 kilograms of cannabis at Sangotedo area of Ajah.

Three suspects arrested by the operatives were identified as Abdulazeez Rasheed, Afeez Raheem and Moshood Suleiman.

Babafemi also said that at least, 979,119 capsules of expired pregabalin weighing 733kg were recovered from Musbahu Ya’u, 28, and five others at Dansarai area of Kano, while in Enugu, 197.8kg cannabis was recovered in a store at new market, Enugu last Tuesday.
