Oba Ewuare II tasks NAPRAS, NBIS on improved medical services

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, has urged them to improve the healthcare system in Nigeria.

The Monarch who gave the charge on Thursday when members of Nigerian Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (NAPRAS) and Surgeons Burns Injuries Society (NBIS), paid him a visit in his palace, called on the leadership of the Associations to initiate and implement reforms that will advance Science and improve on their medical practice.

“We advise and plead with you to do your best. Grow these Organizations. I am still curious about your practice in hospitals and what your challenges have been.

“So, we must do our best in prayers to support your Organizations. But I also heard that in some cases, there are failures. This failure is not peculiar to Nigeria, but all over the world,” he said.

The traditional ruler, however commended the medical practitioners for living up to their billings over the years and pledged his support in carrying out its duties.

Earlier, the National President of NAPRAS and NBIS, Dr. Folake Abikoye, while highlighting the roles of Surgeons, said the two bodies have trained almost 200 medical personnel in enhancing manpower development.

He disclosed that the rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom was the reason behind the choice of Edo State as host state for its Conference.

Highlights of the visit were presentation of souvenirs to the Oba Ewuare II and royal blessing on the visitors.

Plastic surgery entails addressing defects including abnormalities such as Cleft lips, Cleft palate defects that are either caused by accidents or occurs during childbirth: grafting of tissues, and other human parts that requires reconstruction through surgery.
